Most brewers started out their careers at the very bottom of the totem pole – washing kegs, bottling, scrubbing hard to reach areas – basically doing a lot of the not-fun, grunt work that needs to be done in order for brewery operations to go forth. I want to specifically discuss the job that includes washing kegs. This statement will ring true to many, many brewers and brewery employees:

“You are the keg cleaner. Take immense pride in your job. You are the last line of defense in this brewery…if those kegs aren’t properly cleaned then all of the hard work in wort production and fermentation is pointless! Keep this in mind and know how important you are to this brewery.”
