Societe Brewing Company’s annual food drive is back this holiday season, working again in conjunction with The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank.

Food Drive

Our in-house food drive starts on Friday, November 27 and runs through Thursday, December 24.  That’s an entire month for you to come into the brewery and drop off non-perishable food items in order to help out those in need.  We had a ton of fun last year and we brought in a lot of food donations, so we are going to go ahead and incentivize you to do the same again this year.  To help thank you for your generosity, we are offering $1 off the price of full pours of our beer for the duration of the food drive for anyone (21 years or older, with valid identification) who brings in a food item from the food bank’s list of “Most Needed Food Items.” That’s right, all donors receive $1 off of full pours on the day of their donation. The Most Needed Food Items list includes what y’all might expect, items like:

  • Canned Meat & Tuna
  • Canned Soups
  • Canned Fruits & Vegetables
  • Canned Beans
  • Dry Cereal
  • Rice
  • Mac & Cheese
  • Spaghetti
  • Infant Formula
  • Peanut Butter (Skippy!)
  • Powdered Milk

Just like last year, in addition to the $1 off, individual daily reward for a donation, we are setting some communal goals that we want to nail down as a brewery.

  • If y’all bring in 400lbs of food total, we’ll offer 20% off of all merchandise for the duration of the food drive.  That’s 20% off the price of growlers, glassware, and apparel.
  • If y’all bring in 800lbs of food together, we will bring back the anniversary glassware special.  Yep, for the duration of the food drive (through December 24), we will be offer $1 pours of any beer in your First anniversary glassware.  Bring back in your Second anniversary glass, and get $2 pours.  And bring back in your Third anniversary glasses and get $3 pours of any beer.  We may even have some Societe Three glasses kicking around for you to purchase if you missed out on picking yours up this past June.  This is a great promotion, and we’re excited to bring it back and we hope to see a lot of anniversary glassware coming back into the brewery.
  • If y’all bring in 1,200lbs of food collectively, we will run the anniversary glassware special through the entire month of January.  This means $1, $2, and $3 pours for the entire first month of 2016.  Killer deal.
  • If y’all bring in 100,000lbs of food, well, the entire Societe crew will shave our beards.  This includes Travis.  Yes, Travis…

And if these community goals weren’t enough, we are going to be hanging up a scoreboard with the list of the top individual donors.  The top six folks who have brought in the most food will go up on the scoreboard list, and the top three people will receive an on-going 50% off beer discount throughout the food drive.  This means, if you have brought in the most food items (by weight), you will get half-off of your tab each and every day.

At the end of the food drive, the top three donors also get some special prizes.  Trust us, you really want to bring in some food to donate. These prizes are:

  • 1st Place: a reserved parking spot in our lot and a reserved bar stool in our Tasting Room.  Plus, you get to go to lunch with Doug and Travis.  You also keep your 50% off  beer discount throughout the whole month of January.
  • 2nd Place: a reserved bar stool in our Tasting Room plus your 50% off of beer discount through January.
  • 3rd Place: a big hug and your 50% off beer discount throughout the whole month of January.

Whew… There you have it folks.  The high and the low down of this year’s holiday food drive.  Let’s rock and roll.  Thanks for your support, have an awesome holiday season and help make it brighter for those in need.

Cheers, from Team Societe.

San Diego Beer Week…

San Diego Beer Week

That’s like “Wisconsin Cheese Week,” “Minnesota Lake Week,” or “Washington D.C. Really Old Monument Week…”.

It’s the best of the best, the creme de la creme.  If you love San Diego beer as much as we do, you can’t help but get happy.  We start to get excited each and every November when San Diego Beer Week rolls into town, and this November 6 – 15 is no exception.  Here’s the down and dirty on our plans for the week.  Come out and see us for some great beer:

Friday | November 6

VIP Brewer Takeover | The best brewers in town come out for this one, the official kick-off event for San Diego Beer Week.  Taste some of the best beers in San Diego, all while collectively celebrating the fact that San Diego is the Capital of Craft.  Support the San Diego Brewers Guild.  Wear your party pants.

Societe vs. Noble Ale Works at Tiger!Tiger! Tavern | We have a hate-hate relationship with our friends from up North at Noble Ale Works.  Join our Brewery Curator — Doug Constantiner — and the Head Brewer from Noble — Evan Price — as they throw down over beers at Tiger!Tiger! Tavern out on the back IPA bar.  It’s all actually just a part of our secret plan to get Noble to send beer for us to drink during Beer Week.

Saturday | November 7

SD Brewers Guild Festival | As far as we’re concerned this is the best beer festival in San Diego.  Every year, this is one you don’t want to miss.  Join us for a day of all-San Diego breweries, all-San Diego brewers, and all-San Diego beers.  All together in one awesome spot on the Broadway Pier.  It’s like Christmas for San Diego beer geeks.

Monday | November 9

Fishing with the Brewers at Fathom Bistro | Catch some breakfast, lunch, beers, and maybe some fish with a few of San Diego’s best brewers.  Sip a beer and cast your rod (they’ll hook you up with a fishing rod and bait and tackle when you buy your ticket) off the Shelter Island pier with us.

Industry Night at Societe | This is our big fat awesome THANK YOU to the people who make this industry such an amazing one here in San Diego.  If you’re employed by a San Diego Brewers Guild Brewery Member or Allied Pub Member, bring your pay-stub to Societe and enjoy $1 beers all night from 6pm – close.  You work hard for San Diego beer, so come enjoy one with us.  Chef Hanis from Carnitas Snack Shack will be here, too, with food available for purchase.

Tuesday | November 10

Societe Brunch at Crushed | Not quite halfway through Beer Week, but we’ll be ready to ‘crush it’ with brunch on Tuesday at Crushed in Pacific Beach.  Tapas and beers and hanging out with us, and re-charge for the rest of Beer Week.

Pink Boots Society at Societe | We’re hosting a Pink Boots Society Meetup for the San Diego Chapter.  If you are a Pink Boots member (or an eligible member), join us at 6pm for an evening of craft beer and camaraderie.  Paige McWey, the Executive Administrator for the San Diego Brewers Guild, and Claudia Faulk from Aztec Brewing Company are the scheduled keynote speakers.

Wednesday | November 11

CUCINA enoteca Beer Dinner | The ladies of Societe Brewing Company invite you to an evening of revelry and gluttony.  In celebration of San Diego Beer Week, enjoy five Societe Beers with CUCINA inspired faire.  We’ll be on hand to talk beer and food with y’all, with interactive food and beer pairing stations.  Come out on Wednesday night at 6:30pm for a great time.

Thursday| November 12

Hamilton’s 7th Fling | One of our absolute favorite annual beer week events, the Hamilton’s and Green Flash Fling.  The “Societe Flingers” will be out throwing disc, drinking beers, and having a killer time.  Come join the fun.

Friday | November 13

Churchill’s Pub & Grille Beer Dinner with Societe Brewing | Church is one of our favorite North County spots for a beer dinner, and with rabbit, boar, gator, and duck on the menu, this is sure to be a wild one.

Battle of the Guilds at Toronado | It’s the traditional Beer Week throwdown.  You’ve got the San Francisco Brewers Guild, the Los Angeles Brewers Guild, and the hometown heroes, the San Diego Brewers Guild, all under one roof and all up on one beer board.  15 beers from each Guild, representing the very best that that region has to offer.  You pick your favorite beer of the night and you vote for the best Guild.  We plan to bring it strong and bring home the Gold Keg to San Diego.  Come party with us at Toro.

Saturday | November 14

Societe Up the Hill at Alpine Beer Company | It’s no secret that we love Alpine Beer Company.  We wind down Beer Week up the hill at the new pub.  Lookout for three special small plates of food to pair up with Societe and Alpine beers.  Better yet, grab yourself a muffin tray with tasters of both.  We’ll be out there at noon and hanging around all day, with Societe glassware to give away to the first few folks who give us a hi-five.  Drink Alpine Ale or Go To Bed!

Benchmark, Fall, and Societe Cornhole Tourny at Rabbit Hole | This past summer we teamed up with the fine folks at Benchmark Brewing Company and the cool kids at Fall Brewing for the 2015 Summer Solstice Ale Trail.  We’re getting the band back together, only this time we’re going toe-to-toe in a good old fashioned cornhole tournament.  Come out and cheer us on as we throw bags against teams from these other two great San Diego breweries.

Sunday | November 15

The Beer Garden at The Lodge at Torrey Pines | The preeminent food and beer event in San Diego, it’s the Beer Garden at The Lodge at Torrey Pines.  This year we’re paired up with Chef Amy DiBaise from Tidal, as well as the new kids on the block over at Duck Foot Brewing Company.  12 Chefs, 24 breweries, 1 amazing experience.  Don’t miss this.

Monday | November 16

Nap Time | Sleep is a good thing.

Water, malt, hops, yeast…

Y’all know that these four ingredients are what go into making beer, but if you’ve ever wanted to see how we use these ingredients to brew beer at Societe, here’s your chance.  We’re bringing back the Saturday public tours at Societe, and this is your chance to go behind-the-scenes and check out our operations from grain to glass.

Each Saturday we are offering two public tours, the first at 2:00pm and the second tour at 4:oopm.   The space is limited to twelve people per tour, and it’s first come first serve.  Get here early, sign up for the tour at the bar, and enjoy a beer.  The tour itself is free, and it’s pretty freakin’ fun.  Come drink San Diego beer and check out our spot.

We encourage you to wear closed-toed shoes and keep your head, hands, arms, legs, and feet inside the ride at all times.  Ask a lot of questions and party on.

For any questions, comments, or wisecracks, please contact our Tour Manager Jade at tours {at} societebrewing {dot} com

Holy smokes Batman!

It’s been a year already, and Free Comic Book Day returns on May 2, 2015.  Once again, Southern California Comics is joining forces with Societe Brewing Company for a “super” day of comics and beer.  Jamie and the awesome folks around the corner at Southern California Comics celebrate Free Comic Book Day annually, giving away free comic books and hosting a pretty killer party.  They kick things off at 9:00 am and then rock and roll all day until about 5:00 pm in the evening.

So here’s your game-plan for a heroic day…

Step 1: start the day over at Southern California Comics, get your free comic book, and geek out over the fantastical and the extraordinary.

Step 2: stop by Societe Brewing Company, we’re opening early at 11:00 am so you can geek out over our awesome beer.  We will be pouring beer all day, from 11:00 am – 10:00 pm, some come early and hang out with us.

Step 3: get $1 off of full pours of beer (for guests who are 21+) or $1 off of a delicious Boylan’s craft soda (for anyone who is thirsty).

Of course, it’s easy to work up an appetite when you are fighting crime or saving the planet.  Lucky for you, we’ve got Grillfellas on the schedule.  They’ll be bringing out some wood-smoked BBQ along with all the fixings.

For more information about Free Comic Book Day at Southern Comics, you can visit www.socalcomics.com or give them a shout at 858-715-8669.  Be sure to stop by our brewery at 8262 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard on what will absolutely be an epic day!

It’s become an expected part of the San Diego craft beer scene to see party buses and limousines cruising around town. Many responsible folks, conscious of the need to avoid driving when they plan to consume alcohol, opt for these buses as a way to safely visit San Diego’s wonderful breweries. And while we at Societe have done our absolute best to accommodate these groups in the past, the growing popularity of these buses has forced us to adjust our approach.

Beginning Friday, May 1st, 2015, Societe Brewing Company will only accommodate buses/limousines from our approved vendor list. This list will be updated regularly, and can be found on the Tour Bus and Limousine Policy page of our website. To be placed on this list, vendors must be vetted by our staff, and must meet certain expectations. These expectations include, but are not limited to, tours that are education-oriented, and tours with guides who chaperone their patrons. Transportation providers interested in joining our approved vendor list can contact tastingroom {at} societebrewing.com for more information.

Ultimately, many factors influenced our decision to take this step. The single biggest, however, was our commitment to a Tasting Room that is comfortable and accessible for all of our guests, and especially those seeking to learn more about delicious craft beer in the place in which it’s born. We believe that a Tasting Room is a special place where fresh beer and education come together, and we further believe that a Tasting Room is not a bar.

If you would like to organize a group of friends for an educational visit to our Tasting Room, we would love to host you and would ask you to consider supporting our approved vendors. Again, beginning May 1st these are the only buses/limousines that will be accommodated in our Tasting Room.

If, however, you wish to head out for a day of drinking with the goal of getting intoxicated, we would ask that you steer clear of our Tasting Room. There’s not a damned thing wrong with wanting to head out and drink, and we absolutely appreciate you choosing to do so responsibly. Nonetheless, our Tasting Room will not admit your party.

If you find yourself with any questions regarding this policy, please do not hesitate to contact tastingroom {at} societebrewing.com .

Cheers!

This Holiday season, we are bringing back our Holiday Food Drive, working in partner with the good people at The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank.

Food Drive

Our in-house Food Drive kicks off on Friday, November 28 when we re-open the Tasting Room for regular hours after the Thanksgiving Holiday.  We will be running the Food Drive through December 24, so you will have plenty of time to come into the brewery and drop off non-perishable food items and help out those in need.

Y’all did such a great job last year in helping to bring in food, that this year, we feel that we can do even better.  To help thank you for your generous donations, we are offering $1 off the price of full pours of our beer for the duration of the Food Drive for anyone (21 years or older, with valid identification) who brings in a food item on the Food Bank’s “Most Needed Food Items” list.  These items have the most impact nutritionally, and they really benefit those in need.  We are talking:

  • Canned Meat & Tuna
  • Canned Soups
  • Canned Fruits & Vegetables
  • Canned Beans
  • Dry Cereal
  • Rice
  • Mac & Cheese
  • Spaghetti
  • Infant Formula
  • Peanut Butter
  • Powdered Milk

Any time that you bring in an item, you are entitled to the $1 off of full pours discount.  Bring in a food item on Tuesday, and get $1 off all of your full pours.  Come back again on Saturday with some more food, you get $1 off all your full pours again on that day too.  And if that were not enough incentive to help out an awesome cause, we wanted to set a few goals for the Drive.  We brew beer by the barrel here at Societe, and the Food Bank gave us a barrel for the drive, so let’s go with goals per barrel:

  • If you collectively donate enough food (~200 pounds) to fill up one barrel, we will offer $1 off the price of a 2L growler fill for the rest of the Food Drive.
  • If you donate enough food (~400 pounds) to fill up two barrels, we will offer $1 off the price of a 1L growler fill as well as $2 off the price of a 2L growler fill for the rest of the Food Drive.
  • If you donate enough food (~600 pounts) to fill up three barrels, we will break out one of our favorite beers, The Highbinder, for pours in the Tasting Room.  That’s right, we will have a limited supply of our 6.2% ABV Barrel-aged and blended Feral beer with Raspberries available by the glass while the single keg that we have on-hand lasts.

So there you have it.  Choose your own adventure, one barrel, two barrels, or three…

Come out and help us help those in need.  Cheers.

————————

Well folks, you all did it.  Together you donated over 600 pounds of food to our food drive efforts, enough to fill three barrels worth of food.

As promised, today, December 16, 2014, we will be tapping a limited supply of our 6.2% ABV Barrel-aged and blended Feral beer with Raspberries, The Highbinder.

In the Tasting Room, starting at 5:00pm this evening, we will be offering 12oz. pours of The Highbinder for $8 each and 3oz. tasting pours of The Highbinder for $3 each, while supplies last.  This beer is tasting delicious right now, and by tapping the single keg we have on-hand, it is our small way to say thanks to you for your giant efforts this holiday season.  Our Food Drive for the San Diego Food Bank would not have been such a resounding success without the support and the contributions from each one of you.

Thanks so much.  Cheers.

Free Comic Book Day…sounds pretty awesome, right?  Well, we think so.  Beginning in 2002, Free Comic Book Day was initiated to capture the fascination of the young and the young-at-heart, helping to promote comic book artists and local comic book shops.  Jamie and the good people right around the corner at Southern California Comics participate in Free Comic Book Day every year.  This year, on May 3, they will again be showcasing some pretty “super” comic books, and of course, their guests will be able to grab a free comic book to enjoy.  They will be kicking off the day around 9:00am, and they expect that they will be rocking and rolling until about 5:00pm.

Just like last year, Societe Brewing Company cannot help ourselves but get involved – we are likewise geeks, we just geek out over beer.  OK, sometimes marvelous comic books too.  On Saturday, May 3, we will be opening our doors early at 11:00am.  So go check out Jamie’s shop and then follow the signs for awesome beer.  We will be offering $1 off of full pours for folks who bring in their Free Comic Book.  We will also have free Boylan’s craft sodas for those folks who are under 21 or who don’t happen to care for a beer.  We want all comic book lovers to feel welcome at our brewery.

But it gets better!  The wonderful people at Pho Realz SD will be getting here right at 11:00am, and they will have you covered for lunch.  They make awesome Southeast Asian Street Food that goes incredibly well with a glass of our Out West, Old World, or Stygian beer.  They will be sticking around to serve food until they run out of grub, but we will be open and pouring awesome San Diego Craft Beer until 10:00pm that night.

For more information about Free Comic Book Day at Southern California Comics, you can visit www.socalcomics.com or give them a call at 858-715-8669.  If you want some more details about how we will be involved, give us a shout at 858-598-5415.  Come see us on Free Comic Book Day!  Cheers.
