This Saturday, April 6, we will tap the first annual edition of The Brewster, an IPA brewed to raise awareness and funds for the Pink Boots Society, a non-profit organization educating and advocating for women in the professional brewing industry. This year’s brew was spearheaded by our tasting room manager, Lia Garcia, who offered up some thoughts on what this beer and this organization mean to her…

So many firsts come with the release of this one-of-a-kind brew. While the Pink Boots Society has been brewing beers in celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8) for the past few years, this is the first year Societe was able to collaborate from our very own brewhouse. Our PBS Collaboration Brew Day featured women representing a variety of careers within the San Diego beer industry, including, but not limited to, the San Diego Brewers Guild, breweries, tasting rooms, public relations, and raw material providers. Like these women, The Brewster Pink Boots Society IPA will stand proud on Societe’s “Out West” line-up of hoppy ales on our tasting room beer board. Up until now, all of our Out West beers have been named for male or gender-neutral characters. (Not to worry, our “Old World” series of Belgian and Germanic ales and lagers are all named specifically for female members of society.)

The Brewster IPA falls in line with its Out West counterparts, allowing the hops to really shine with aromas of tropical, citrus and even coconut complimenting light berry and citrus fruit flavors. Yakima Chief Hops worked with members of the PBS to produce the Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Day hop blend, selecting Mosaic, Simcoe, Loral, Glacier and Sabro hops during a selection session at last year’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado. We are sure that The Brewster will stand out on our line-up and are happy to support the Pink Boots Society’s mission to “ASSIST, INSPIRE and ENCOURAGE women beer professionals through EDUCATION.” After all, “We Are Societe” and “Societe is for Everyone.”
